Based on our experience from the 1st Cheddar Challenge, and with the input from many participants, we have modified our routes to be safer and more enjoyable while still remaining very challenging.
Changes include: much easier routing out of and then back into the Village at the start and end of each course; mid-course directional changes to make certain areas safer to traverse; course route changes on the "Sharp" & "Xtra Sharp" routes to make them more enjoyable.
We have added a 10 mile route that will be an excellent challenge for families and beginners. This ride is meant to be a challenge, so a hydration station will be positioned at mile 5.8.
Note: The course includes one rocky climb that some may have to
walk up.
The "Sharp" & "Xtra Sharp" rides are quite challenging and have some improvements. Both routes have had a directional change on Middle Rd that turns what was a blind rocky section (that many riders approached carrying a lot of speed) into a rocky climb that will be a serious, but much less dangerous, challenge.
The "Sharp" ride has had 1 mile of pavement and one mile of dirt added to the route.
The "Xtra Sharp" ride has had the single-track and four-wheeler trails eliminated from the route in exchange for a very scenic loop added to the southern end of the route. For those of you who enjoy very challenging sections, have no fear: The Infamous Cobble roads( Kate Hall, Marsh) are still on the route!
Be aware that these routes are more challenging than they appear on a map or an elevation chart. This is by design. We hope you enjoy the Cheddar Challenge 2025!
The Aid Stations for "Sharp and "Xtra Sharp" both have an aid station at mile 15.3, and the "Xtra Sharp" ride passes the aid station again at mile 37.
All routes will have a "sag wagon" following to help anyone who gets stranded. These roving "sag wagons" and the aid station will have a pump on board. However, they will not have other tools or tubes. Please prepare accordingly.
